Dream State Escalate: 40

Hollyweird invaded my dreams again last night..

Last night I had a dream that my BFF Charlie Day (from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) set me up on a date with Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother/Forgetting Sarah Marshall/5 Year Engagement)... this date was a disaster of epic proportions. Jason kept speaking in the third person and calling himself "Prima" because he thought it meant "Prime" or the best... I told him it meant "female cousin" arguments ensued an I finally told him to "google translate it then bitch" (giggles, I'm an asshole apparently)... which he did, then got really silent, and said... I guess I need a new catch phrase.

Umm yeah.

So after the disaster date, I went to Charlie's house to complain and I found my long lost glasses, they were on his coffee table all along.

(now if I could only find them in real life).

Hazard Canyon with Mom

I feel like I'm cheating a little bit when I post these photo blogs, but sometimes the images can share so much more than words alone. I hope you enjoy the photos as much I enjoyed taking them while spending the day with my mom.

Album Review: Fall Out Boy "Save Rock & Roll"

Artist: Fall Out Boy
Album: Save Rock & Roll
Point of Purchase: iTunes
Price: (special deal) $7.99

I've been a Fall Out Boy fan probably since 2005 when "Dance, Dance" hit the TRL airwaves, I wouldn't call myself rabid, but enough of a fan to purchase an album without much knowledge of it. I have to say I was NOT disappointed. The FOB team put out a fantastic new album, in fact it's pretty much all I've been listening to since I downloaded it a couple nights ago.  You can listen to the album in its entirety on Spotify if you're not someone who likes to purchase music without giving it a test run.

1. The Phoenix: "dance alone to the beat of your heart"
2. My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up): "you're the antidote to everything except for me"
3. Alone Together: "Let's be alone together, (yeah), We could stay young forever"
4. Where Did the Party Go: "You and me are difference between real love and the love on TV"
5. Just One Yesterday (feat. Foxes): "Find yourself a new gig, this town isn't big enough for the two of us"
6. The Mighty Fall (feat. Big Sean): "I'm drivin' and I can't stop staring at my eyelids, but
Even though my eyes closed, I still see you, I just hope when you see me I'm not see-through"
7. Miss Missing You: "Sometimes before it gets better, The darkness gets bigger, The person that you’d take a bullet for is behind the trigger"
8. Death Valley: "What I've got will make you feel more alive,  I'll be your favorite drug, I will get you high"
9. Young Volcanoes: "Tonight the foxes hunt the hounds, And it's all over now before it has begun,
We've already won"
10. Rat a Tat (feat. Courtney Love): "If my heart is a grenade, You pull the pin and say: We're all fighting growing old"
11. Save Rock and Roll (feat. Elton John): "You are what you love, Not who loves you"

She & Him: Volume 3: Album Review

Album: She & Him: Volume 3
Point of Purchase: iTunes
Price: $9.99

I've recently discovered She & Him, I mean I know they've been around, and I've been a fan of Zoey's for awhile, but I've never really listened to their music until I got a free download from Starbucks a few weeks back and had to get the whole album for myself. It is different than the type of music I would normally listen to, but I have to say I've really been enjoying it, I've even added their other albums to my spotify playlists at work.

1. I’ve Got Your Number, Son: I’ve listened to enough of all your stuff to fill a book or two2. Never Wanted Your Love: All I know is I'm tired of being clever, Everyone is clever these days
3. BabyAs long as you need me you know I’ll never let you down
4. I Could’ve Been Your GirlCause I could’ve been your girl, And you could’ve been my four leaf clover
5. Turn to WhiteYou’re a distraction from everything that I feel, And the good and the wicked things I do
6. Somebody Sweet to Talk ToYou keep trying to forget about the good times

Does it make the fall a little better?
7. Something’s Haunting YouWhat’s a girl to do?
When something’s haunting you

8. TogetherAnd I like you but you think too much,
And I don’t want to be your mother and your crutch
9. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss MeBut they never stood in the dark with you, love.
When you take me in your arms and drive me slowly out of my mind.
10. Snow QueenI’m the dark, I’m the night, I would bark but never bite
11. Sunday Girl: I know a girl from a lonely street, Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet
12. LondonOh London, I love you, Where the clouds never go away
13. Shadow of Love: You and I, we told a story of love from our hearts, but it never came true, There’s no tomorrow for me and you
14. Reprise (I Could’ve Been Your Girl)

May is Magical

  • Fiddler on the Roof: This spring the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts's Santa Maria theatre is under renovations and they are performing at other venues. The first weekend of the month my mom and I saw their production of Fiddler on the Roof.  The show was awesome, amazing, inspiring, and so much more. It was funny, emotion packed, and the musical numbers were flawless. I've seen their production of the play before years ago, and I can't even compare them. I felt like I had been catapulted into another place and time, I was part of the show. It is always a sign of a good show when they can evoke all of your emotions in a 3 hour window.... and get you to stand on your feet and applaud until it sounds like the roof is going to cave in.
  • Birthday Celebrations: This is the year my best high school friends and I turn 32, and the celebrations have started out pretty fantastically. Even though we didn't go out and party like we may have done 5 years ago, we had an amazing time talking, eating pizza, drinking wine (or other cocktails) and playing board games (apples to apples, trivial pursuit, things, etc.), not to mention getting into heated debates over what it means to be an adult and standing by the choices you make.  My aunt also had a birthday this month and the family celebrated at the Olive Garden and had dessert at my grandparents house.  The food is what you could typically expect at this particular eatery, but I have to say my strawberry margarita was flawless.
  • Wedding Shoot: This month one of my best friends hired me as her second shooter (assistant photographer) for a wedding.  This is the first time I've ever handled my camera in a professional manner, and I have to say that even though it was hard work I loved it. I still have a long way to go before I'd do anything on my own (if ever), but it was such an enjoyable experience that I can't wait to do it again.
  • The Departed: One of my favorite bands came to San Luis Obispo this year, they haven't been in California in two years, so this was exciting for me.  One of my friends that I haven't seen much since high school came with me and we had a blast. We started the evening with dinner and pre-show cocktails at the Creekside Brewery then made our way to SLO Brew just in time to see the main act The Departed come on stage.  They played all my favorite songs and more, this is truly an act if you get a chance to see live you should. Their albums are great, but they're even better live. Cody Canada, Seth James, and Jeremy Plato (and the other members of the band) play from the soul and it's evident in their concerts.

  • Memorial Weekend: This year Memorial Weekend held a lot of activities. First of all I am doggie sitting Miss Jersey Girl again, it was a sort of unexpected gig, but we get along great and it's nice to have a pup to watch movies with at night (and to get caught up on True Blood Season 5 just in time for Season 6 to start next month). My friend The Elitist came to visit with her boyfriend and daughter, and shenanigans ensued. We started the visit with a trip to the Klondike Pizza joint in Santa Maria were the little one was excited to throw peanuts on the ground, we forgot to inform her that she should shell them first, oh well, lessons learned. The next day we went to the Annual Strawberry Festival in the Village of Arroyo Grande with my mom where we got to eat Strawberry Kabobs (strawberries and brownies that were skewered and drizzled with white and milk chocolate) and then back to my parents' house for a Memorial Weekend family BBQ. After the BBQ we headed off to the hotel that my friends are staying in (if you're on the Central Coast of California, you should really consider staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pismo Beach, it's centrally located, near the beach, and everything that you would expect from a Hilton) for a little relaxation in the hot tub. Finally on Monday we all headed off for Solvang to finish out the weekend.
